
Julie Ellen "Tawny" Kitaen (August 5, 1961 - May 7, 2021) was an American actress, model and media personality. Her career began as a model and actress on television, appearing in television movies Malibu (1983) and California Girls (1985). Also, she starred in Gwendoline, a comedy character in the Land of the Yik-Yak (both 1984) as well as Bachelor Party (1985). Kitaen was well-known for her performance in the music videos of heavy metal such as Ratt's "Back for More", Whitesnake "Still of the Night" and "Is This love" (all 1987). Kitaen also appeared on reality television shows, such as Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew (2008) and The Surreal Life (2006), which detailed Kitaen ?Ts problems with substance abuse. Kitaen was born Julie Kitaen in San Diego, California in 1961, the eldest of three children born to Linda Kitaen (nee Taylor), a housewife and one-time beauty pageant contestant, as well as Terry Kitaen, an employee of a company that makes neon signs. [1][2] Kitaen's mother was of Scottish and Irish descent, while her father was Russian-Jewish in descent. Kitaen was raised Jewish. She first began to use the nickname "Tawny" when she was 12 and on her own initiative. [6] She was dyslexic in her childhood. The result was that she had to abandon Mission Bay High School. [7] She was 14 when she first saw Penny Frampton perform in Balboa Stadium. [9]
